February 3 is a major day for the Disney owned Pixar Animation Studios, as it marks the anniversary of their founding as an independent company. First a division of Lucasfilm Pixar branched off into its own company in 1986 and eventually caught the eye of Steve Jobs who became a majority investor in the years before they even collaborated with Disney for the first time. Even after the release of films like Toy Story and A Bugs Life though, Pixar was still its own entity and wouldn’t become a Disney subsidiary until 2006 after they’d released six of their movies.
